National Drinking with Chickens Day 2021

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The third annual (inter)NATIONAL DRINKING WITH CHICKENS DAY is Sunday, May 23rd. In case you aren’t familiar, this is a day for us to come together and celebrate drinking with our chickens…by drinking with our chickens. We’re gonna do a fun day of all the usual virtual shenanigans (hopefully, NEXT year we’ll be back to doing in-person events), and we want to see and share how you are celebrating, as well (use the hashtag #nationaldrinkingwithchickensday so we can see you!)! There will be drinks, there will be chickens, there will be giveaways, and there will be a theme.

WHAT:

This year’s theme: DISCO CHICKEN. What does that even mean? You got me. But I hope to see you all celebrating with some sparkly drinks, sparkly sequins, disco balls, and lots of 70’s dance moves. With chickens. (responsibly, please) Your chickens may not appreciate sparkly things (or your dance moves), so if that’s the case, just hanging out and drinking in your pajamas is totally acceptable. YOU KNOW I APPROVE OF THIS. And remember: if you don’t have poultry, I want to see you drinking with whatever cute pets you’ve got. THE MORE, THE MERRIER! And if you don’t have pets, I dunno…maybe drink with your houseplants? WE DON’T DISCRIMINATE—just join us however you see fit and share photos and videos using the hashtag #nationaldrinkingwithchickensday so that I can see and share.

WHAT WE’LL BE DRINKING:

We are partnering with our amazing friends Good Clean Wine who are giving you guys a 20% discount when you enter the code DISCOCHICKEN at checkout. Their Good Clean Spumante Rosé is our official National Drinking with Chickens Day beverage this year (cuz it’s sparkly and pink AND OH SO FREAKING GOOD), but ALL of their gorgeous, Italian wines are up for grabs with that discount, so pick your favorite (or don’t pick—try them allllllllllll), and come virtually drink with us! (Get your orders in ASAP to ensure timely shipping for the event, they take about a week to get to you.)

  • A little more about Good Clean Wine: I love this brand’s story and the partnership behind it—you can read about it in full here, but in a nutshell, these are approachable, zero-intervention wines (meaning they’re sustainably grown, no additives, no artificial ingredients—aka: none of the stuff that sometimes makes you feel icky after just one glass), sourced straight from Italy. Courtney and Elle (the Good Clean Wine masterminds) wanted to make delicious, straightforward wines for those of us that get kind of intimidated by the pomp and circumstance of the wine industry. GO GET YOU SOME OF THIS GLORIOUS WINE. Shop here.

WHERE:

Join us on the interwebs throughout the day, Sunday, May 23rd, by catching us on Drinking with Chickens’ IG live (I’ll be making some sparkling wine cocktails on and off throughout the day) and follow along with the hashtag #nationaldrinkingwithchickensday and on our IG stories where I’ll share my favorite images from the day.

WHAT ELSE:

For those of you actually drinking with your chickens, we felt like the birds needed some treats, as well, so we’ve also partnered with Grubbly Farms to bring a little Grubblies Happy Hour to your flock! They’re offering 15% off their products by entering the code DISCOCHICKEN at checkout. If you aren’t familiar, Grubblies are an all-natural, sustainably-farmed dried black soldier fly grub treat that is high in both protein and calcium and are so so so good for your birds to eat. Mine obsess over them. Also…if you haven’t checked it out yet, Grubbly Farms has the first ever insect protein-based chicken feed (both grower feed and layer feed), made with all natural insect and plant-based ingredients. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Shop here.

WHAT ELSE, WHAT ELSE:

As per usual, there are some commemorative Disco Chicken t-shirts over at #shopDWC. They’re availabe in both unisex and ladies’ fits. (Please be aware that the processing time of these print-on-demand products is anywhere from 3-5 days, not including ship time, so this is meant to commemorate the day, not be worn ON the day of).

ALSO: GIVEAWAYS, BABY! YEAH!

Stay tuned on Instagram and Facebook for some fun giveaways in the days leading up to National DWC Day. We’ve got some AWESOME prizes lined up from #shopDWC, Good Clean Wine, and also our friends at Brite Lite Tribe!

DISCLAIMER TIME:

As per usual, I’ve got to remind everyone of a few rules. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drink responsibly and treat your animals with respect. I hate that I have to specifically say this but, DO NOT FEED YOUR CHICKENS OR ANY ANIMAL BOOZE. It is incredibly bad for them and it sure as hell is not funny. DRINK. THE BOOZE. YOURSELF.

Additionally, since our theme is Disco Chicken this year, I just wanted to take a minute to say that there are definitely some widely available disco costume wig situations that are very culturally insensitive and appropriative. Can we please just not take part in that? Ever again? Let’s skip disco wigs and just stick to sequins, abnormally wide collars, disco balls, sparkly drinks, and fun music. And also chickens.

Now….go forth and drink with your chickens, my friends! Cheers!
