Turmeric Honey Tangerine Margarita

Last Friday was National Cocktail Day and I was hungover AF (shocking but true). But, duty called. I couldn't let the day slip by without making a beverage. And, due to the state of my liver, I decided it needed to be a 'healthy' cocktail. Because my body is a goddamned temple.

Darling cocktail napkins made for us by Dot & Army and Typebird Creative. More info below!

Enter, the Turmeric Honey Tangerine Margarita. It looks like Tang. But it's not. I swear. This beauty blends all the healthy, anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric (I needed it, good lawd, I needed it), with the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of fresh, locally-made wildflower honey. Plus the vitamin C of tangerine and lime juice. Plus cinnamon. Cinnamon is good for you, too. I forget why, but it is. Just trust me. YOU CAN TRUST ME.

But then, of course, there's also tequila. And Cointreau. Because you never want to be too healthy. Moderation is always key.

To make one margarita:

  • 1-1/2 oz. Reposada or Añejo tequila

  • 1 oz. fresh-squeezed tangerine juice

  • 1/2 oz. fresh-squeezed lime juice

  • 1/2 oz. Honeyed Cinnamon Turmeric Syrup (instructions below)

  • 1/2 oz. Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)

  • slice of tangerine and a pretty flower for garnish

  • salt for rim (I used red lava salt)

To make your Honeyed Cinnamon Turmeric Syrup, add 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, plus 1/2 cup honey, and 1/2 cup water to a saucepan and heat on low just until all ingredients liquify and combine. Do not boil. Pour into a mason jar and keep in fridge. Shake mixture before using.

Now prep your glass by sliding a citrus wedge along the rim and pressing it into salt spread out on a small plate. Drop some ice in that sucker.

Let's make that cocktail:

Combine all ingredients, except garnish and salt, in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake until chilled. Strain and pour into your prepped cocktail glass. Float a slice of tangerine and a flower on top and then drink your glorious health tonic.

I should also mention that these adorable embroidered chicken cocktail napkins were made for us as a collaboration between Dot & Army and Typebird Creative. HOW. CUTE. ARE. THEY. You can buy a set for yourself in Dot & Army's shop. ALSO: I'm excited to be including a set of these in our upcoming Drinking with Chickens giveaway package--stay tuned for more details!
