We definitely put our chickens up on pedestals around here. Figuratively, but also literallyβ¦becauseβ¦well, it keeps them away from the cocktails. But if thereβs any summer drink that deserves to be up on a figurative AND literal pedestal, itβs this pretty Scarlet Fruit Tequila Sour which is so bright and full of flavor. It brings together the sparkling refreshment of a Vita Frute Vodka Soda and the mellow spiced fruitiness of Exotico Reposado in the most unexpected and wonderful way. YES THATβS RIGHTβweβre blending vodka soda and tequila and it is really dang delicious.
SCARLET FRUIT TEQUILA SOUR
Makes 1 serving of the cocktail and 6-8 servings of the syrup.
Ingredients:
2-3 oz. Vita Frute Blood Orange (to top drink)
1.5 oz. Exotico Tequila Reposado
1 oz. Scarlet Fruit Syrup (instructions below)
1 medium raw egg white (always use caution when consuming raw eggs. This ingredient can be skipped.)
.5 oz. lime juice
1 slice of blood orange + organic bloom for garnish
To make the syrup:
Combine in a small pot over medium heat:
1/2 cup blood orange juice (or normal orange juice)
1/2 cup honey
1 red plum, chopped and pitted
5 cherries halved and pitted
1 cinnamon stick
Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool, then strain liquids into an airtight container and store in fridge for up to 2 weeks.
To make the cocktail:
In a shaker with ice, combine tequila, syrup, egg white, and lime juice. Shake vigorously until chilled and until egg whites are foamed up. Strain into a coupe glass, then top with Vita Frute, and garnish.
Just a gorgeous, bubbly, and refreshing summer tequila sip! Cheers!
