Death in the Afternoon

Again with the Hemingway? Well, this is just getting awkward for everyone.

Except me.

Again, also with the amaranth bloom garnish. But that color is perfect. Don't even try to deny it.

Death in the Afternoon is one of my favorite all time Halloween cocktails. It just kind of feels like some wicked potion, without being too awfully over-the-top. Plus also: sparkling wine.

Fun fact...did you know that absinthe glows under a blacklight? True story. I don't want to think too hard about what that means, but it's a pretty cool party trick. So just keep drinking.

The greener the absinthe, the more brightly it glows. That being said...I tend to prefer my absinthe a little less green and glowy (HOLLA, St. George Spirits!!!).

Ernest Hemingway famously proclaimed that one should "Pour one jigger absinthe into a champagne glass. Add iced champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly".

Oh, Ernest. You complete me.

And he also said you should drink them in the afternoon. With chickens.
