Winter Citrus French 75
Ima just keep doing champagne cocktails, mmkay?
We are just inundated with glorious citrus right now, so it seemed only proper to ring in the New Year with something bubbly and citrus-y. And bubbly.
So I gathered up some locally-grown pink Cara Cara oranges, some Meyer Lemons from my brother and sister-in-law's tree at their new house (holla, first-time homeowners!), plus limes and grapefruits from our own trees--and I squeezed about an ounce of each juice and combined them as my cocktail base.
To make one cocktail:
1 oz. mixed citrus juice
1 oz. gin
.5 oz. simple syrup
2 dashes citrus bitters (I used grapefruit, but orange would be gravy, too)
2.5 oz. of sparkling wine or champagne
a few citrus rounds for garnish
edible star glitter if you've got your sassy pants on
Add gin, citrus juice, simple syrup, and bitters to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until chilled, and strain into a champagne glass or coupe. Add your chilled champagne or sparkling wine. Float one or two small citrus rounds and sprinkle with edible glitter. Find appropriately-sized party hat and enjoy.
